Platform Newsletter - June 2025

Published June 05, 2025

June is here, and with it comes not only the first hints of summer (finally!) but also Pride Month — a great reminder that celebrating diversity makes every community stronger, including ours. 🌈

This month, I’m excited to meet many of you in person at events in London and Seoul. Nothing beats connecting face-to-face (or screen-to-screen) to share ideas, learn new tricks, and talk all things Slack and automation.

Speaking of automations — summer’s the perfect time to free up your calendar and let smart workflows do the heavy lifting. Whether it’s automating meeting scheduling, catching up on unread messages, or simplifying repetitive tasks, we’ve got you covered with fresh tips and tools in this issue.

So grab your iced coffee (or tea!), and let’s dive into the latest and greatest in Slack development.

Secure data, smarter AI: What’s new in Slack’s platform

We’re rolling out powerful new tools for building secure, context-rich AI experiences in Slack—including support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a Real-time Search API, and updated API Terms of Service. If you’re building with AI, trust, or data access in mind, this one’s for you.

The story behind Slack’s VIP feature

How do you make urgent messages stand out—without overwhelming the user? Go behind the scenes with Slack’s design team to see how they tackled one of the most requested notification features. The result? A subtle but powerful way to surface what matters, right when it matters.

How to say “No” to meetings (without spiraling into guilt)

Between internalized people-pleasing and your color-coded calendar crying for help, declining a meeting can feel like breaking a social contract. But it doesn’t have to! Here are 5 delightfully non-apologetic ways to RSVP “nope” while keeping your boundaries—and your good standing.

June drops

  • Let’s meet IRL—and maybe even hand you the mic
We’re bringing Slack to more cities around the world, with events popping up in London, Seoul, and beyond. And we’re not just looking for attendees—we’re looking for leaders. If you love Slack and want to help grow the community in your region, this is your chance to shine.

Whether you’re interested in speaking, organizing meetups, or just being the go-to person for Slack in your city, we’d love to hear from you. Explore upcoming events and apply to be a Slack Community Leader.

  • A quick update on our new API docs

We’re giving ourselves a little more time to make things even better! The full launch of docs.slack.dev is now scheduled for August 2025. This extra runway helps us polish the experience and ensure a smoother transition from api.slack.com.

Until then, you can still explore the new site, update bookmarks, and follow progress via the changelog. Thanks for bearing with us—we’re excited to share the final result soon!

  • Agentforce Agents have entered the chat

You can now @mention Agentforce Agents directly in Slack channels! Whether you need help summarizing an account, answering a question, or getting a task done, agents are just a ping away—no tab-switching required.

It’s privacy-aware, fast, and designed to keep your work flowing where collaboration already happens. And for those on the go: mobile support is almost here, arriving in the next few weeks.

  • Unread AI Summaries in Catch-Up are here!

If you’re on a Biz+ plan (or above) with Slack AI, you can now try out AI-powered unread summaries in Catch-Up!

On mobile, just pinch to get a quick summary of all your unread messages — no more endless scrolling to catch up. And if you’ve got 20+ unread messages or more than 2,000 unread characters, you’ll see a “summarize” button pop up on your Catch-Up card so you can get the gist in a snap.

We’re always blown away by what our community creates—and we want to highlight you next! Whether it’s a handy tool, a step-by-step guide, or an insightful article, if you’re proud of it, we want to hear all about it.
